UN: Nearly 1.5 million Lebanese people had to leave their homes due to fighting
The food security situation in Lebanon is worsening amid the ongoing conflict. The local branch of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) estimates that about 1.5 million people have been displaced by the fighting.
“Nearly 1.5 million people have had to leave their homes. WFP increased the volume of (food) assistance and reached 488,200 people,” the organization reported on social network X.
It is estimated that 2.5 million people in the country need food assistance (Lebanon's population is 5.3 million). Overall, according to the WFP report, nearly half of the population – 47.5% – is food insecure.
