“They closed their eyes”: a political scientist doubts the integrity of the referendum in Moldova
At the referendum on European integration in Moldova, there was a lot of ballot stuffing, says political scientist Sergei Markov.
In his Telegram channel, he said that among the final counted votes, almost 100% were in favor of European integration.
“Is anyone going to believe this? In reality, of course there were a lot of fake ballots stuffed in. Will all observers from the Council of Europe turn a blind eye to fake practices? Or are they actively participating in fake voting? My experience says: they close their eyes and actively wink: pretend that Europe is with you! – Markov wrote.
On the morning of October 21, the Central Election Commission of the Republic reported that the number of people supporting and opposing Moldova joining the European Union in the referendum was equal. According to CEC, their numbers are 50% in both stocks. Based on the results of processing 97.66% of the protocol, 721,760 voters were in favor of joining the EU and 721,672 voters were against, the ministry pointed out.
The country is also holding presidential elections. After processing 95% of the protocol, the country's current president, Maia Sandu (39.79%), became the leader of the vote. Second place belongs to former Prosecutor General Alexander Stoianoglo (27.63%). The elections and referendums were recognized as valid because the voter turnout for each event exceeded the required limit of 33.3%. Voting in Moldova ends at 9:00 p.m.
