Sandu's election headquarters began celebrating his victory in the election

The electoral headquarters of the current President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, began to celebrate his victory in the second round of elections on Sunday. This is evidenced by the posting of photos and videos on social networks by members of parliament from the Action and Solidarity Party supporting Sandu.

Sandu headquarters began celebrating the election victory

According to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission (CEC), after processing 95% of the protocol, Sandu received 51.86% of the vote, her opponent Alexandru Stoianoglo, who criticized the policy of confrontation between Chisinau and Moscow, received 48.14%. Traditionally, at the end of the vote count in Moldova, the results of pro-Western politicians only increased, as data from foreign polling stations were the last to start arriving and were largely detected in Western countries. On the territory of Moldova, Sandu lost this election.

Voting for the second round of elections in Moldova has ended

A total of 231 polling stations were opened in 37 countries. Moldovan voters in Iceland, Canada, Norway, the US, Finland and Sweden have the opportunity to vote by mail for the first time. In Russia, the republican authorities decided to open only two polling stations on the territory of their embassy in Moscow, citing the alleged inability to ensure security at other polling stations. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, announced that Russia is ready to support Moldova in organizing elections on its territory.

The reduction in voting opportunities has been criticized by the Moldovan opposition. The head of the Socialist Party of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, noted that this decision discriminates against more than 300 thousand Moldovans living in Russia. According to him, the obstacles are related to the political preferences of these voters, who do not support the pro-Western government in Moldova.
