Media: Spontaneous protests began in Israel after the head of the Ministry of Defense resigned
Spontaneous protests began in Israel on Tuesday night after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his decision to fire Defense Minister Yoav Galant. Ynet portal reports this.
According to him, in Tel Aviv, hundreds of protesters blocked the Ayalon highway in the east of the city and lit fires on the road. Hundreds of protesters also went to Netanyahu's residence in Jerusalem. In Haifa, thousands of protest participants blocked traffic along one of the city's central streets, the portal said.
The leader of the opposition in the Israeli parliament, Yair Lapid, called for protests after the Defense Minister resigned.
“Firing Galant in the middle of a war is crazy,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Previously, Mr. Netanyahu said he had decided to dismiss Defense Minister Galant and appoint the head of the Jewish state's Foreign Ministry, Israel Katz, to replace him.
The prime minister added that he offered the position of head of the Israeli Foreign Ministry to Minister without portfolio Gideon Saar.
