A protest rally in Tbilisi near the parliament building against the election results ended without incident. reporters reported this news from the scene.
The protest in Tbilisi took place on Monday evening. Opposition leaders have spoken out about their plans of action, which include not recognizing election results both domestically and abroad, as well as disrupting the first meeting of the new parliament.
After that, opposition politicians and protesters decided to organize a march in the capital. First they went to the Baratashvili Bridge, then went down the embankment, then to the Dry Bridge, after which they separated. Car traffic along the protesters' route was blocked.
The participants of the protest decided to gather again at 14:00 (13:00 Moscow time) on Tuesday near the Sports Palace.
Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on October 26. According to the Central Election Commission, the ruling party “Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia” received 53.93% of the vote, won and received has the right to form a separate government. Four opposition parties also surpassed the 5% barrier: the “Alliance for Change” association had 11% of the votes, the “Unity – National Movement” party had 10.16%, “Strong Georgia” received 8.8%, “Gakharia for Georgia” – 7.76%. The remaining votes belonged to parties that did not pass the 5% threshold.
All opposition parties in parliament refused to recognize the election results. The country's president, Salome Zurabishvili, also does not recognize them. According to her, CEC data was manipulated and the opposition actually received more total votes than Georgian Dream and won a majority in parliament.
