A ban on tobacco sales for all people born after 2009 is being discussed
In Russia, they are discussing the possibility of banning the sale of cigarettes and nicotine-containing products to people born after December 31, 2009. The Ministry of Health proposed to support this bill that could be amended, Kommensant write. However, some agencies object, citing possible restrictions on constitutional rights and the growth of an illegal tobacco market.
This document was drafted by the New People's faction in September 2024 and sent to the government for review. In other countries, similar initiatives have not yet been successful. Currently in Russia the sale of cigarettes to people under 18 years of age is prohibited.
First Vice Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection Fedot Tumusov noted that it is necessary to wage a tough fight against smoking.
