The impetus for creating Kingdom Come: Deliverance was the lack of historical video games
Kingdom Come: Deliverance creator Daniel Vavra admitted that the game was inspired by the injustice of the lack of historical video games.
“In general, I am very upset that there are no historical video games at all,” the developer emphasized.
Vavra notes that despite the popularity of historical themes in film and literature, fantasy projects still dominate the games industry. He encountered conservatism when pitching the idea of a historical game without monsters, but was confident that there was market demand for realistic medieval adventures.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance, released in 2018, proved Vavra right. The game, set in 15th-century Bohemia, received critical acclaim and sold more than 6 million copies.
Currently, the game development team is working on a sequel, scheduled for release in February 2025. Almost at the same time, the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows is planned, the action of which will take place appeared in medieval Japan. Recently, the producer of Ubisoft's game series spoke out about the criticism that erupted around a black samurai and a female ninja.
