Rumor: Resident Evil 9 will see Jill and Leon complete the megamycelium storyline
Resident Evil's plot development has stopped since Resident Evil Village launched in 2021, so fans are eagerly waiting for the ninth installment. Its development led by Resident Evil 7's game director became known in July, but only insiders revealed any details. This is what happened now.
The new information is said to come from a tester, so you should take it with a grain of salt until Capcom releases official details. In addition to Leon Kennedy, who has been mentioned in previous rumors, you will be able to play as Jill Valentine.
4 years after the events of Village, the couple will find themselves on an island inhabited by a company that creates copies of Evelina, the villain of the seventh part. The main villain of Resident Evil 9 will be a certain Mr. Simon. And the horror itself will complete the plot with megamycelium. By the way, the main characters will also be infected with it.
As for the rest of the plot, Umbrella Corps will return in some way. Chris Redfield and Barry Burton will take on the supporting roles of communicating with Leon and Jill via radio. Also mentioned is Rosemary Winters, whose blood was used to create a vaccine for the island's residents.
On the island, which, according to past rumors, is located in Southeast Asia, there is an abandoned hospital and houses, caves, laboratories, a temple, a dark forest and even a old factory. The game test in April is said to take place in the hospital as Jill, and testers can play as Leon in the woods in September.
The main enemies will be zombies, reminiscent of the infected Ganado in Resident Evil 4 (2023). They can use melee weapons and worship the moon, getting tattoos of it. In addition, Leon will be followed by a certain enemy with the Tyrant spirit, and Jill will be attacked by the Goat Man. This mutant does not appear in the Resident Evil universe but appears in fan canon.
It is worth noting the possible appearance of heroes. Leon Kennedy looks mature and the outfit corresponds to the animated film “Resident Evil: Grudge”. But Jill, created by Alexandra Zotova, resembles her from “Resident Evil: Death Island.”
The above are rumors that should not be taken seriously until official information appears. As for a possible release date, it could be late 2025. Furthermore, Capcom is likely to use technology from Dragon's Dogma 2.
