Doom launches on Nintendo's smart alarm clock
Enthusiasts have learned how to hack the firmware of the Nintendo Alarmo smart alarm clock, allowing them to install non-standard software on the device. A white hat hacker nicknamed GaryOderNichts decided to take this opportunity to put the classic first-person shooter Doom on his alarm clock. The enthusiast shared the results of his idea on his personal page on social network X (Twitter).
GaryOderNichts did this after many requests from subscribers – initially the hacker was only interested in the possibility of having an alarm clock and installing third-party content on it. For example, at first he just projected a photo of a cat onto the device.
Alas, at least for now there is no audio support in Doom on Alarmo. Additionally, the full game image must be compressed to run. If you wish, you can launch the free version of Doom with the first episode – this will not require additional cuts. You can do this yourself, as the hacker described in his blog.
Currently, only Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can buy Alarmo for 99 USD (about 9.7 thousand rubles at the exchange rate as of November 3, 2024 – Gazeta.Ru). The alarm clock will be publicly available in 2025.
Nintendo Alarmo is a smart alarm clock designed and manufactured by Nintendo. It was released as a limited edition on October 10, 2024.
