It is known that Rotanov was 84 years old, the artist died at the hospital. In addition, Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the sculptor.

“Culture of St. Petersburg suffered a great loss… As a man of multifaceted talents, he left behind a bright legacy. In his works, the heroic historical pages of our Fatherland occupy an important place. He participated in the establishment of the glorious Green Belt monument. He became the author of the monument to internationalist soldiers at the Serafimovskoye cemetery. One of his last works is the monument to Alexander Blok on Dekabristov Street. Evgeny Nikitich Rotanov's creations have become a recognizable part of our city,” Beglov said.

Rotanov graduated from the Leningrad Higher Art and Industrial School named after VI Mukhina and became famous for his high-class bas-relief “House of Raskolnikov”, the memorial stele of KS Petrov-Vodkin on Kamennoostrovsky, as well as his sculpture carved “New Age” at the intersection of Belinsky and Mokhovaya streets.
