Ministry of Emergency Situations: emergency warning due to cyclones announced in the southern Kuril Islands
An emergency warning due to heavy rain has been announced in the South Kuril and Kuril regions. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia for the Sakhalin region.
The storm will cover the area on the evening of November 17 and continue until November 18.
“An urgent warning and response recommendations have been sent to the city authorities and interacting agencies,” the notice said.
According to the Ministry, all necessary means and equipment are ready to overcome the consequences. The situation with the approaching storm is under the control of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia for the Sakhalin Region.
For safety reasons, locals are asked to stay home and find out the location of their loved ones. In addition, people are advised to limit fishing during the warning period.
On November 16, a dam in St. Petersburg was closed due to flood risk. It was reported that there was a gale warning in the eastern Gulf of Finland due to strong southwest and southwest winds with a speed of 25–28 meters per second. Wave height is 2.5 – 3 meters.
