Izvestia: School guards in Russia will have to be armed and wear body armor
Depending on the situation in the area, school security guards will be required to carry weapons, wear bulletproof vests and wear helmets. This was reported by the newspaper Izvestia in connection with the head of Rosstandart Anton Shalaev.
Rosstandart approved amendments to GOST “Provision of security services at premises of preschool, general and professional educational institutions”, which will enter into force on January 1 2025. Currently, under normal conditions, guards must stand guard with rubber batons and handcuffs, and when applying high-risk regimes, they must wear helmets and body armor.
In addition, employees of private security companies must have documents proving that they have undergone additional physical training. This standard will be mandatory for government entities that hire private security companies through public procurement.
Last August, Izvestia wrote that Russia will have a GOST for security guards at schools, kindergartens and professional educational institutions with a requirement to provide protection in case of an attack armed or terrorist attack. In September 2022, Russian President Dmitry Peskov's press secretary stated that the security effectiveness of educational institutions needed to be reviewed following the Izhevsk shootings.
