Pankratov was born on September 4, 1946 in Moscow. In 1986, he graduated from VGIK's cinematography department, and then worked in television from 1986 to 1974. In 1979, he graduated from the directing department of VGIK. He is the director of feature-length films such as “Portrait of an Artist's Wife”, “Happy, Zhenya!”, “Tricks in the Old Spirit”, “Goodbye, Zamoskvoretskaya Scoundrels”, “Tomorrow”, “Beard with Glasses” . and Warthog” and “Hitchhiker”
